Our Workshop

Everything we make has a story. This is how we take re-claimed materials and turn them into unique pieces.

Wood

For us, it all starts with the wood.

We visit reclaim yards and period properties that are being demolished to source the best materials.

Some of our benches may have started life as the hull of a trading ship; the shelves in our bookcases may have once been floorboards in a Victorian schoolhouse.

Every piece of wood has a story and we are proud to be giving them a second life, instead of seeing these great materials go to landfill or incineration.

When we find these woods they are sometimes so old and caked in layers of dirt and residue that it’s impossible to even tell what species they are!

We take a portable stripping device to sand away the dirt on a tiny patch of the wood so we can see what lies beneath and decide if it is coming back to our workshop to begin a new life.

Once in the workshop, the woods are stripped by sanding at least 10 times! Any leftover nails are removed and, depending on how raw we want the finished look of the piece, a black resin may be added to level out any crevices.

Finally, we add a few coats of Osmo oil or lacquer to finish off the look without hiding any of the natural design.

Metal

Whilst the wood is the cornerstone of most of our furniture, it is unquestionably enhanced when framed in metal.

The metals we most frequently use are mild steel or wrought iron beams and poles.

Unlike the woods, these materials are often new, however, they are fully recyclable and we would love to see them upcycled for years to come.

Every piece of metal on our pieces is hand cleaned, cut, primed, welded and sprayed with top-coat.

The top-coat we use is a hard-setting, acrylic paint that can withstand years of wear and tear.

The matt finish is stunning and we are able to offer a range of colours across including black, grey and forest green.
